A graduate of the University of the West Indies, and the University of London, King’s College, John was called to the UK Bar in 1983 and admitted to the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1983. As a co-founder of Hanschell & Co., John has built a practice that specialises in civil and commercial law, including banking, property transactions, corporate restructuring, and offshore companies.
John's legal acumen has been instrumental in representing major commercial banks, including the Royal Bank of Canada and Republic Bank, and his contributions to high-profile property developments across Barbados have solidified his standing in the real estate sector. His work on the sale of the Manufacturers Life Insurance Company's mortgage portfolio in 1997 remains a key milestone in his career.
